MEC offices temporary closed for disinfection

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has temporarily closed offices for a disinfection exercise following six positive Covid-19 cases that have been reported among its staff within the past three weeks.

Accordig to a statement signed by Chief Elections Officer Mr. Sam Alfandika, the disinfection exercise will be carried out by the Blantyre District Health Office and will cover offices and warehouses in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu starting from Friday, 31st July to 10 August, 2020.

The statement has indicated that MEC offices will be closed on Friday, 31st July to Sunday 2nd August, 2020 at its Head Office and all warehouses in Blantyre while on Monday, 3rd August, 2020 it will close Southern Region’s Regional Elections Office.

On Wednesday, 5th August to Thursday, 6th August, 2020 will close Central Region’s Regional Elections Office and all warehouses while on Saturday, 8 August to Sunday 9th August, 2020 it will close Northern Region’s Regional Elections Office and all its Warehouses.

“The Commission is advising all stakeholders that it is following strict Covid19 preventive measures. All visitors when entering its premises are advised to wear a facemask and sanitise their hands” advised Alfandika
