Malawi farmer hospitalised for stabbing himself with a knife to prove his magic


A tobacco farmer in Kasungu has been admitted at district hospital for allegedly stabbing himself in an attempt to showcase that his body is protected with charms and a knife can’t enter into his body, a local newspaper has revealed.

According to AIH newspaper published on the 7th of  February  this year, 32 year old Chilanga tobacco estate man an employee of Alliance One Tobacco Limited, Kondwani Kasewe of Kafwafwa Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Kalumo in Ntchisi allegedly stabbed himself in an attempt to showcase his magic that no knife can enter into his body.

According to Kasungu police deputy public relations officer, Harry Namwaza the man was telling his workmates that his body is well protected with charms.

He later took out a knife which he spat on several times before plunging it into his ribs but the knife didn’t find its way into his flesh but rather got bent.

“Upon seeing what had happened, one of his workmates, Aubrey Banda suggested that Kasewe should try his new knife which he had just bought at the market so that they should prove if his magic really works,” said Namwaza

According to the police publicist, Kasewe in an attempt to prove his claim stabbed himself with the friend’s knife but the alleged magic didn’t perform as the knife went straight into his flesh and wounded him severely.

However, it was reported that Banda the owner of the new knife stabbed him which led to his arrest.
Meanwhile Kasewe is in Hospital where he is receiving treatment and Aubrey Banda is on police bail.

And in another news from the southern part of Malawi

A 27-year-old man in Chikwawa, Samuel Chakuamba, has killed himself after being reprimanded to stop drinking beer.
Chakuamba hang himself in a tree between the night of 6 and 7 February in Mandere Village in the area of Traditional Authority N’gabu in the district.

He is said to have arrived home while totally intoxicated and started swearing at his parents.  He went on revealing that he was going to kill himself on that particular night. According to the deceased father, Willy Chakuamba, the deceased had once attempted suicide but was quickly rescued by his parents.

As the family went to bed, Samuel reportedly sneaked back into his house and picked a nylon rope and hang himself just 500 metres away from the parents’ home.

He was discovered dead in the morning of Wednesday. Police and medical personnel got to the scene and the latter conducted postmortem which revealed that the deceased had died of strangulation.

Meanwhile, police are advising the public to desist from taking their own lives whenever faced with problems, but should rather report to authorities for help.
